COOPWORTH FLEECES
The 2008 Coopworth fleeces have been shorn and skirted. Please page down to see what we have available for sale today!
Coopworth fleece is a semi-lustrous or lustrous fleece. The Coopworth is a Romney/Border Leicester cross, for those of you who are not familiar with the Coopworth, but may be familiar with those two breeds. Crimp varies from animal to animal, but is has a very defined crimp. The fleeces that I have washed have had a yield of about 75% (washed weight compared to grease weight). This is a great fiber for beginner spinners, as the staple is long and the fleece is not too slippery. It is a medium softness fiber, not "next to the skin" for most people, but good for things like socks!
We have both white and colored fleeces available. All fleeces have been heavily skirted to remove the worst of the vegetable matter, dung tags, burrs and matted areas. But I am human, so please forgive me if I miss an occasional burr! Please email us with any questions or to reserve a fleece. We take personal checks or money orders. corycats@tds.net or corycats@hotmail.com
We do not cover our sheep, so there will be some vegetable matter in the fleeces.
Coopworth roving available on the "Roving" page.
Below each fleece description, I have included a picture of both the whole fleece, photographed in sunlight, to give you a good idea of the overall color of the fleece (monitors vary) and a staple sample pulled at random to give you an idea of the staple length.
